I love good old fashioned personal websites. They remind me of a simpler time, before social media ruled the internet waves.
It's always fun when I'm searching for some niche piece of information and I stumble upon someone's personal site. I'll normally stay and have a little look around, find out a bit about this complete strangers life, and then be on my way.
I have been creating my own websites on-and-off for nearly 25 years now. For much of that time I used Wordpress for convenience, but that always seemed overkill for what I needed, so more recently I've been playing around with static site generators. I've created some sites using the popular Hugo, while for this one I decided to try Zola. The theme is Apollo.
I'm a big fan of simple, minimalist, sites and enjoy clicking around places like the 1MB Club and 512KB Club. There's lots of cool personal sites there, and many have links to web rings so you can continue your journey into the weirdness.
I've cycled through many different domains in this time too. I tend to find a domain name I like, create a handful of posts for some content, and then normally after a couple of years have a change-of-heart and take it down, or remove the content. I love the initial act of creating a site, but I'm also a very private person, and on the odd occasion someone has contacted me after reading something I've written it's felt quite weird.
So this place is really just for me, to record stuff I'm doing. If it ends up being useful to someone else, great, but there's not going to be a comments section or contact details here anytime soon :D
